Project Overview

The electrical skids this company builds carry serious value, and they go to demanding data center customers who expect equipment to arrive in the condition it left in. A skid rarely goes straight into service, either. It often ships and then waits in storage before it is installed, which means the packaging has to hold up across two different stretches, not just the truck ride.

The company needed packaging that went on quickly, protected the equipment the same way every time, and looked professional when the radiator reached the customer. Transhield was brought in to replace the film with a custom cover.

Challenges going in:

  • Applying roll film was time-consuming.
  • The process was labor-intensive for the crew.
  • The film failed often enough to be expensive.
  • Failures meant rework and damaged product on high-value units.

The Transhield Solution

Protection That Travels and Stores

Every Transhield cover is custom-built to the product line. The outer film is water-resistant and sheds rain, snow, and much of the sun’s UV, and the soft inner layer draws moisture away from the surfaces it rests against. Because the cover can stay on after the unit reaches its destination, the electrical skid stays protected through storage rather than sitting exposed while it waits to be installed.

Corrosion Control for Exposed Metal

An electrical skid carries a lot of metal, and metal left in shifting temperature and humidity starts to corrode. Transhield builds a Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor additive into the cover that releases molecules into the enclosed space, where they settle on metal surfaces and slow corrosion by 85 to 95 percent for the life of the cover.

A Standardized, Repeatable Install

The cover goes on the same way every time, with less time and labor than wrapping film. That turned packaging into a predictable step instead of a variable the team had to manage on every shipment.

Project Results

Protection and durability

  • The cover shields high-value skids from the elements across both the trip and the wait in storage.
  • Optional VCI slows corrosion on exposed metal for the life of the cover.

Reliability and process

  • Packaging is now faster, safer, and repeatable, and it minimizes the failures, warranty claims, and rework on damaged product that the old film used to produce.
  • A predictable packaging step replaced a variable the team used to manage on every shipment.

Outcome

  • The company now relies on Transhield as its only packaging solution for this kind of work.
  • Units arrive presentable and professional, fitting the value of the equipment and the customers receiving it.

Have high-value equipment that has to survive both the trip and the wait in storage? Let’s talk.

Transhield builds every cover to the exact dimensions of your product line and can add corrosion protection where the metal calls for it.
